Just read a 'shen yuan is yue qingyuans reincarnation and transmigrates into his body' oneshot and it fully hit me with how firstly shen yuans name is almost the equivalent of yqy doodling mr shen qingyuan into the margins of his notes like a dork, and secondly how funny that concept is in general. Like assuming shen yuan looks a bit like sqq like is often fanon, yqy thought so hard abt a dude he popped out into the reincarnation cycle looking just like him, proceeded to be so weird abt that guy in a new different way and then immediately after came BACK to the world to keep being weird abt that guy. The brain worms are eternal. Incredible

"are you asking me or making me?" is soooooo interesting to me because i think armand only asks it when he can't gauge whether he's letting louis down. it's barely even sexual - it's a hail mary. it's a show of trust, indirectly admitting that he wants to do something other than what louis expects of him, but that he's willing to obey louis anyway, for the sake of their relationship. it's sort of heartbreaking watching them at the sacrĆ©-cœur, because if louis had said "i'm making you" armand would've done it in a heartbeat. he would've taken it as a show of committment on louis' part, and he wouldn't have betrayed him. but louis takes the question just as an expression of disagreement, and so he doesn't play the game. ironically, he respects armand's independence too much to make him turn madeleine if he doesn't want to. and so armand isn't convinced of louis' commitment to him, and he betrays him.
and by the time we see them in san fransisco, louis knows what the question means now, and answers "no, arun, i'm not asking" without question. and armand accepts it without complaint, even as it pains him. companionship really is the most important thing in the world to armand, just like it is for lestat, and he's willing to do any number of horrible things to louis and himself just to keep him as a companion, just like lestat. louis' biggest mistake is not realising how to use that to his advantage sooner.
edit: HELP people are reblogging this again. i misremembered the context of the scene - louis is asking armand to witness the turning, not do it himself. still, if armand had gone along to witness, that would have 100% been taken as implicit permission for louis to turn madeleine (thereby adhering to the first of the great laws) and, in essence, "agreeing" with her turning where before he ordered claudia to drive madeleine out of town. this hypocrisy, and the further bending of the rules for louis' sake (he's given permission to turn a mortal despite neither of them being in the coven), would have been seen by the coven as betrayal. armand knows this; he doesn't think madeleiene should be turned for these reasons; that's why he asks, "are you asking me or making me?"
still. if louis had said "i'm making you" i think armand would've gone along to witness, implicitly giving his permission for madeleine to be turned and functionally changing his allegiance from the coven to louis once and for all. so the core point of the post still stands.
#iwtv#loumand#thunder rambles#it really makes me hysterical because louis just wants to fuck around and find himself now here come exclusivity and#amatanormativity to ruin it all. move‼‼#i havent known peace since i saw that reddit post calling lestat's behaviour in s1 'jobless behaviour'. all the vampires really hate louis#for having friends and hobbies and theyre gonna make it his problem if it kills them#anyway yeah. i really really believe this. armand knew he had a loose grip on louis at best#and i think he never wouldve sold louis out if louis had made him turn madeleine. ironically#louis' biggest crime is uhhh respecting armand's disagreement with him. and having a life outside of him (claudia and madeleine)#that he wants to flourish#its so sad though because its all in service of ruining the family dynamic anyway#louis is feeling the walls closing in on him and claudia and so he elects to let her go n for claudia to have her trad 1-on-1 companionship#with madeleine#and after this he intends to commit to armand in much the same way.#its sad because how are the only two options 'monogamous partnership' and 'coven cult'.#louis should be able to have his sister-daughter-throw pillow AND his daughter-creation-in-law#AND fuck anyone and everyone he wants AND maintain very sincere connections to other vampires without it necessiatating#a companionship#the true villain of iwtv is the lack of relationship anarchy you heard it here first folks#interview with the vampire

ā€œMaturing is realising Dumbledore’s the real villainā€”ā€œ
Over the man who took over the government because he wanted to kill a (in-universe) minority group?? Over the man who made a registry for said minority group?? Over the man who killed hundreds, if not thousands, and facilitated the explicit torture of school children??
Are you sure?
Are you fucking sure

I just know victor became the darling of the true crime community for at least a year after his death. with the spectacle of elis arrest, the condition victor's body was in, and the discovery of eli's past victims, people were Absolutely tearing into the initial murder trial and connecting some dots. between all the evidence against victor being entirely circumstantial, and the prosecution's case basically hinging on eli's testimony- there not being a single injury on angie's body and toxicology coming back clear, to all appearances dead of a heart attack, potentially from electric shock, especially considering the blown out equipment in the lab; eli claiming he had fought with victor when once again, he walked away from the encounter without a scratch while victor was wheeled away in an ambulance; the fact that victor could not possibly have killed lyne, considering he was shot full of bullet holes at the time; PLUS I'm willing to bet somebody found the records of a hit and run of a janitor who worked in the very same building that occurred mere days later. not to even mention victors apparent suicide attempt less than a week previous, distinctly odd behaviour at a party that night and seeming attempt to stay away from eli at said party, and eli blowing up both his and angie's phones the night if her death, PLUS victor's "save me" text. all of it together, without state resources twisting the narrative and from an outside perspective, is pretty damning for eli. #VictorValeWasInnocent trended for weeks. and his parents made bank on podcast and talk show appearances, of course

Well. This explains a fuck of a lot, doesn't it?
Re: The Umbrella Academy
A few highlights from the Rolling Stone link above:
"The sources and the HR complaint paint Blackman as a manipulative and chaotic showrunner who fostered a toxic workplace by pitting staffers against one another; creating an environment of fear and distrust; taking credit for other people’s work; and allegedly making lewd remarks that sources say they found to be sexist, homophobic, and transphobic. (Blackman’s behavior was also mentioned in two other complaints made by a writing-team member and an actress, Rolling Stone has learned.)"
ā€œFrom the get-go, it was one of the worst jobs I’ve ever had in my life,ā€ says a Season One source.
In text messages provided to HR, he wrote, ā€œElliot wants to come out as trans on the show. As Ivan. Oh my fucking God. Kill me now.ā€ (Ivan is the formal name of Page’s character’s original name; the show ended up using the name Viktor instead.)
Throughout the show’s four seasons, sources claim to Rolling Stone, Blackman would make what they viewed as homophobic and transphobic comments, including juvenile and perverse commentary on individuals’ sexualities and wondering aloud about people’s anatomies. ā€œHe found it very funny, like the butt of a joke,ā€ one says. Again, sources claim, Blackman was clever in the art of the spin, attempting to pass off inappropriate comments as harmless jokes and innocent questions.
ā€œHe could be very good at dropping something that starts to be transphobic or homophobic, like, ā€˜They’re a he/she,ā€™ā€ a second staffer says. ā€œBut then [he’ll say], ā€˜It’s all good, I support it. It’s awesome, live your best life.’ … He toes the line of seeing who will join in and laugh with him, and then if nobody does, really skillfully backpedals.ā€
Blackman would also make sexist, lewd, and disparaging comments, such as remarks about female staffers’ breast sizes and wondering aloud about their sexual proclivities, sources and the HR complaint claim.ā€œShe’s relentless,ā€ Blackman allegedly texted one staffer about another, according to texts that were provided to HR in the complaint and reviewed by Rolling Stone. ā€œI’m sure that’s good for certain things… but in the room it’s exhausting. But … the rack.ā€Ā

It's easy to get the impression that Tetsuji never cared enough to rein in Riko's behaviour and temper but I think it's the opposite. I think Riko grew up constantly being told stuff like, "You have to learn to control your temper" and, "Is that any way to behave?" by Tetsuji. I think Tetsuji would have even disciplined him harshly every time he was caught acting out of anger. But all that is coming from Tetsuji - the man who would beat a kid if they displeased him in any way. How can you ever really take to heart the words of someone who demonstrates the exact opposite of what they preach? How are you supposed to not learn that the real lesson is, "Become the one who has all the power over everyone else and you will never have to suffer criticism for how you behave ever again."

I said it once and I’ll say it again
Writers who are hired for adaptations or continuations should deal with characters with neutrality.
We all have our faves but here’s the thing you’re not writing a fanfic for yourself, you’re writing an adaptation that’s going to be shown for everyone, for the entire fan base , for newcomers too and getting paid a good price for it.
regardless of how you feel about said character , they should get what they deserve, the fans of this character deserve to see their fave properly written, to have them well showcased in their own media, do the characters justice.
Respect all the characters and Respect the established plot line.
Respect the fans of the individual character not just the shippers.
Don’t let shipping and bias influence your writing decisions to the point where you lose and sacrifice major characterisation and plot points for their sake.
( this is honestly for all writers in all media )
Let your characters exit outside of their ships . don’t change them to fit into the ship.
let them exist outside of your own influenced view of them.

In regarding to Effie/Hayffie (just briefly mentioned but i will include it) I feel like Katniss being a limited narrator (in the sense that she doesn't take a third party approach, and tells her story from the point of view she held while living its events) is something that's important to take in consideration.
What we do know of book Haymitch and book Effie (more so the latter) is limited to what Katniss sees firsthand.
Solely speaking about Effie, Katniss tells us a few things:
1. she's compassionate towards her and Peeta, and towards other victors too ("Oh, not Cecilia..." and her talking about Chaff)
2. Haymitch has an habit of defending her, and she does the same in the limits of her capacity
3. She is very observant; she sees that Katniss isn't able to sleep and gives her sleeping pills. She cares.
4. She was the one who proposed the tokens for the 75th HG.
Of course we don't get her full point of view or opinion, but that'd because Katniss genuinely didn't know, nor does she know about what happened to her in MJ until Flavius, Venia and Octavia tell her.
There is a lot that's said between the lines, that's easily forgettable but that make up her character and give us more context about what goes on with her.
Again, she's a character that's highly open to interpretation, because we don't know anything about her apart from these little tidbits Katniss shows us, and so it goes with Hayffie, if we want to make a stretch.
We only know that they often bicker, but we also see her defend Haymitch's role as a mentor, ally with him for Katniss and Peeta's sake and, again, we are told Haymitch will defend Effie.
And we are also told, in the end, that Haymitch and Plutarch take great pain to keep her alive.
Can't stress enough that the interpretations are endless, but the idea of Effie being more than a morally grey character (like an antagonist, or worse, a villain) is a stretch, given what we do know about her.

Self-indulgent Vladimir Makarov ('09) headcanons:
WOULD be a pyromaniac. At least lowkey. The line between "setting fire for fire's sake" and "setting fire because he's explicitly destroying property" is blurred. (*)
Tried to punch a concrete wall once because he thought he could make a big hole in it like those thin American walls. He, in fact, could not. String of curses and angered yells ensued, and he blamed that the wall was "built poorly."
Probably had many partners in the past, but shot them when they tried to leave out of paranoia they'll either spread rumours about him or spread secrets. He doesn't feel guilt nor joy from doing it, like slapping a mosquito dead.
(Not doing a particular sexuality headcanon here. Fine, fine, he's VERY bisexual.)
DEFINITELY grandiose, and this is confirmed canon with his mannerisms and smug way of speaking. He had a genuine, 100% certain delusion that he was incapable of dying no matter what happens- hence why he's visibly skinny. Not a body image thing (no way in HELL is this man insecure in any format) or for lack of access to food, but because he's convinced himself he can never get ill or malnourished.
(AGAIN, this is a "just for fun" thing. I do not have a psychotic disorder [pretty sure anyway], and psychosis does NOT excuse his actions nor explain them, but it explains his mindset. In my head, anyway.)
Would be 100% down to eat human flesh if he had the chance. Is NOT morally against being a cannibal, he'd just see it as fun and something he inherently "deserves" to experience.
(* OP has pyromania. This is not meant to be a "realistic" portrayal but merely a "just for fun" headcanon for a villain I enjoy but cannot be "redeemed" in any form.)
